Travel with a Purpose
We have recently launched 'Travel with a Purpose', another of Giltedge's commitments to making a positive change through travel. This latest initiative, broken down into 3 main areas (Volun-Tourism, Edu-Tourism, Eco-Tourism) is a great way to help anyone with a hands-on experience to take an active role in uplifting local communities or conserving the environment in the destinations that they visit during their travel. Find out more now.
In the spirit of giving back…
Although Giltedge is involved in a number of philanthropic events and activities, there are two organisations that are very close to our hearts and who projects we vigorously support.
The first is “Uthando” (which means “love”), a non-profit organisation and responsible tourism initiative based here in Cape Town. The aim of Uthando is to raise funds and other forms of assistance to community development projects around South Africa – some examples of these projects include “Abalimi Bezekhaya” (which focuses on skills and training to help people become self-sufficient in food production and micro growing) and the “Amy Biehl Foundation” (which assists with youth development – teaching young people life skills, thereby keeping them off the streets).
Uthando also offers visitors the opportunity to visit some of these unique projects, either on scheduled half or full day tours – they can also arrange tailor made private tours. Many of these are located in sprawling townships just outside of Cape Town and allow visitors the opportunity to discover uplifting and fascinating stories of life here, interacting with locals and learning how these projects are helping people overcome their circumstances.
We are proud members of Pack for a Purpose, an initiative that allows travelers like you to make a lasting impact in the community at your travel destination. If you save just a few kilos of space in your suitcase and bring supplies for area schools or medical clinics in need, you'll make a priceless impact in the lives of our local children and families.
