Gauteng

Gauteng on the economic heartland of South Africa. Built on gold (discovered here in the late 1800s), its capital Johannesburg is characterised by its vibrant pace and ‘Afropolitan’ flavour. Pretoria, 50 kilometres north of Johannesburg, is South Africa’s administrative capital – with its colonial buildings and jacaranda-lined streets, it has a far more sedate pace.

Gauteng is a convenient departure point for safaris and is South Africa’s gateway into Africa.  Whether visited en route to one of the game reserves or an Indian Ocean island, it remains a must-do.
