Masai Mara
Kenya is the home of the original safari holiday and the annual migration from the Serengeti in Tanzania to Kenya’s Masai Mara and back is truly an once-in-a-lifetime sight.
Perhaps the most famous game reserve in the world, the Masai Mara is a land of vast savannahs. It is home to Africa’s Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo) and the Masaai people. The reserve offers excellent game viewing throughout the year and not only during the migration, which can be unpredictable as it does not fall on a specific date, depending instead on when the rains fall.
Visitors to this region are spoilt for choice with luxury safari camps available either in the park or on the surrounding conservancies that offer a more exclusive experience including game walks and night drives which are not allowed in the park. This part of Kenya is also the heartland of the Maasai people who live in harmony with nature.
Highlights during any trip to the Masai Mara include:
- The annual Wildebeest Migration. This truly is one of the greatest natural shows on earth!
- Visit a local village for insight into the traditions of the semi-nomadic Masaai people. It is a must on any visit to the region.
- A hot-air balloon flight over the Masai Mara is a safari experience beyond compare.
