One of the natural wonders of the world, Victoria Falls is a majestic, not-to-be-missed experience. Raging torrents of water fall down impressive gorges to the Zambezi River far beneath. This is the place for elephant-back safaris, bungee jumping; white water rafting or slow cruises down the Zambezi River.
The Victoria Falls is situated right on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia and in recent years visitors tended to stay on the Zambian side. This is changing and there are some good reasons to consider staying on the Zimbabwe side including a range of good quality accommodation, warm, friendly service and the chance to play a round of golf on the Gary Player designed Elephant Hills Golf Course within earshot of the Victoria Falls.
The falls are spectacular at any time of the year but the heaviest flow occurs after the rainy season and from March to May the excessive spray can hinder views of this natural phenomenon. Views of the falls are generally the best from the Zimbabwe side during the dry season (from August to December) and this is also the best time for white water rafting.
Highlights and suggested day tours during any trip to Victoria Falls include:
- Take to the skies on the legendary Flight of the Angels – an unforgettable helicopter flight over the falls
- Book a 111-meter bungee jump at Victoria Falls; this one is not for the faint-hearted
- Experience the Zambezi Gorge through white water rafting, power-boating or river boarding
- If you’re short on time, book a day trip into the Chobe National Park in nearby Botswana
