Cottar’s 1920s Safari Camp

The Cottar safari tradition began in 1919 when the family first moved to Kenya. Now, 100 years and five generations later, you too can experience the romance and adventure of the early days of safari in this authentic 1920s-style camp.

Cottar’s 1920s lies in a private conservancy bordering the Masai Mara. This award-winning safari camp has cream canvas tents with canopied beds, antique furniture and vintage trunks. Each tent opens onto a verandah where, as you sip a G&T, it’s easy to feel that you’ve left the modern world far behind and slipped back to an age where time moves more slowly. Ask you butler to set up a sunset bath on your private veranda – it’s an experience not to be missed!

Game drives are led by some of the best safari guides in Kenya! As Cottar’s is in a private conservancy your guide is allowed to drive off road getting you up close to big game sightings. Guided walks and night game drives are also permitted, or cross into the Masai Mara where – if you get your timing right – you could find yourself amidst the vast herds of the wildebeest migration.

Cottar’s has 9 tents including a honeymoon tent and 4 family tents. There’s also the option of staying in the 5-bedroom private safari villa, which has its own dedicated team of staff, large living room and 25-metre swimming pool. Service is five-star, and in the evenings everyone sits down together to fine dining around a family-style table warmed by the soft glow from silver candelabras.
