Finch Hattons Luxury Tented Camp
Three-time winner of ‘Africa’s Leading Safari Lodge’ (World Travel Awards), Finch Hattons combines the big game safari experience with elegant tented accommodation in Tsavo West National Park. This really is a beautiful section of the park; the camp’s 17 tents tucked amongst acacia trees around natural spring-fed pools where hippo wallow and crocodile bask in the bright Kenyan sunshine.
Unlike lodges that stick to a strict schedule, days at Finch Hattons are arranged around you. Most guests opt for early morning and afternoon game drives, your Maasai guide tracking down shaggy-maned lion, giraffe, zebra, leopard and elephant – their skin tinted red from the park’s fine dust. On afternoon drives, you might stop for sunset drinks at a viewpoint looking out towards Mount Kilimanjaro. Superb!
Finch Hattons recently underwent extensive renovations. The luxurious tents have hardwood floors and antique furniture including a writing desk and carved wooden chest. In the en-suite bathroom, there’s a copper bathtub and indoor shower, as well as a fantastic shower. If you’re travelling with friends or family, consider booking one of the two-bedroom tented suites – each of which has their own lounge and extensive outdoor deck.
Between drives there’s plenty of time to relax alongside the lodge swimming pool, listening to hippo at the waterhole and the twittering of birds in the surrounding trees. The camp also has an impressive spa and a well-equipped gym. Finally, a true safari highlight at Finch Hattons is their cuisine from bush breakfasts and al fresco lunches, to 6-course dinners served on fine china and paired with an excellent selection of wine.
