Franschhoek is fast becoming one of the world’s favourite foodie destinations. Just an hour’s drive from Cape Town, this pretty Cape Winelands town is home to some of South Africa’s top restaurants and over 50 wine farms. And, at the heart of the village, is Leeu House – a 12-bedroom boutique hotel.
Although on the town’s main road, Leeu House retains the feel of a country escape with peaceful gardens and spacious rooms. Each room or suite is individually decorated to the highest quality from the superbly comfortable bed and exquisite marble bathroom with underfloor heating to a media hub and handy Nespresso coffee machine.
Leisurely breakfasts are served until noon, and after a day of exploring return to a delicious dinner in The Conservatory or al fresco meal out on the Terrace. Also, staying at Leeu House puts you within strolling distance of a choice of excellent restaurants. For fine dining, try the tasting menu at next-door Le Petite Colombe (you’ll need to book well in advance!).
The secluded gardens at Leeu House have an outdoor heated swimming pool with a shaded terrace. There are bicycles available (free of charge) and staying here gives you full access to all the facilities at the sister property Leeu Estates. These include a complimentary tasting of the award-winning Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines, an excellent on-site gym and spa, and an extensive network of walking and cycling trails crisscrossing the estate.
